Audition for Our 2019 Season

Casting the Spicy Witch Productions Spring 2019 Repertory Season. Our seventh repertory season pairs Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, with the world premiere of The Virtuous Fall of the Girls from Our Lady of Sorrows a hilarious new play by SWP Writer-in-Residence Gina Femia inspired by Shakespeare's classic problem play and set in a Brooklyn Catholic girls' school.  Both plays will be performed by the same cast in alternating repertory.

Spicy Witch Productions is committed to creating an inclusive ensemble of diverse perspectives. Actors of all ethnic backgrounds, disabled, trans, and gender non-conforming actors, and actors of all ages are actively encouraged to submit for all available roles. Due to the repertory nature of the company, all actors should have a strong command of classical text and good weekend and evening availability in April and May.

Casting Breakdown:
Minnie: High school drama nerd.  Big personality. Bubbly with depth.// Mariana Overdone: A force to reckon with. Her own boss. Sex worker.

Imogene: High school senior. Stoic, androgynous, tough but vulnerable.// Lucia: Pot stirrer. Tall tale teller. Best friend to Claudio. 

Jenny: A free-spirited junior, super feminine. Loves J.Lo.// Ms. Thomas: A loyal friend. A senior reporter at a reputable paper. A justice warrior.

Mathilda: Religious, naïve, a Freshman who aims to please.// Isabella: A justice warrior. A lawyer fighting for women's access to healthcare. A loyal sister.

Dove : Minnie’s younger sister. Resentful. Angsty.// Justice Escala: A fair Judge. Really believes in the court system. Also plays Juliet.

Maxx: Rebel without a cause. Her toughness is a shield. Sophomore.// Officer Provost: A lifelong cop. Faithful to the law. Heart of gold.

Sister Ignatius: Teaches religion and morality. Stern but warm. Must be versatile, plays various roles. 30+// Chief Justice Vincentia: A barrier breaker. Believes she can fix everything. A stranger to institutional injustice.

Judge Angelo: A public figure. A man who wants control. A man who cannot control himself.

Senator Claudio: A boyfriend with commitment issues. A public figure. A loving brother.

Schedule:
Rehearses between April 8 -May 16 (evenings and weekends); performances run May 17-June 1st in The Siggy @ The Flea Theater, 20 Thomas Street New York NY 10007

Auditions & Submissions:
Auditions will be held Saturday, March 23; Callbacks will be Sunday, March 24.

Mention your availability the weekend of auditions, if you have prior experience working on multiple shows in rep, and/or experience with classical text.
